This research project stems from a problem situation posed by the management bodies of a primary education institution in the municipality of Viseu, concerning the low academic achievement levels demonstrated by students in the 1st Cycle of Basic Education (1st CEB) in external assessment tests. The proposing entity aims to delineate the factors that may help explain this situation, with a view to modifying it and improving the academic results of the students attending the institution. In terms of methodology, the research includes pedagogical supervision processes and investigation into teaching practices, with the aim of analyzing and collecting relevant information that enables providing a well-founded response to potential solutions for the problem.
