The project's main objectives are to study, communicate, and promote the heritage associated with the commanderies of the Order of Christ. Additionally, the project aims to promote the safeguarding of heritage and its communication to society in an understandable and open manner, seeking to play a role in civic and educational formation. It will provide scientifically informative tools to assist tourism promoters, local authorities, or decision-making centers in enhancing and promoting tourism in the region.
The aim is to conduct a study of the bibliography related to the area and its respective documentation, develop descriptive sheets of the buildings and integrated heritage, and create a geography of the historical-artistic heritage of the Order of Christ between the Zêzere and the Tejo rivers. Tourist routes will be defined and promoted through the creation of a multi-platform website, maps, information and orientation system, infographics, videos, and animated images.
The application of the resources resulting from the research project relies on the involvement of the Municipalities of Covilhã, Fundão, Penamacor, Idanha-a-Nova, Castelo Branco, and Vila Velha de Ródão, as well as the participation of the Naturtejo Geopark, and the involvement of the Diocese of Guarda and the Diocese of Portalegre/Castelo Branco, along with ARTIS – Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon.
