2 DOCTORAL SCHOLARSHIPS FUNDED BY FCT

• Applications are open until August 31st for 2 doctoral scholarships funded by FCT within the scope of CERNAS •

Research grant, hereinafter referred to as Doctoral Research Grant (BID), in the area of Food Sciences/Chemical Sciences/Biological Sciences - reference UIDP/00681/2020.

Degree-granting institution: Universidade de Coimbra – FCTUC

Project: The work will be carried out in the field of resource recovery, particularly focusing on the recovery of agri-food waste, preferably.
The aim is to carry out physicochemical characterization and research into bioactive compounds of interest for potential application in the food, pharmaceutical or cosmetics industries.
The matrix or matrices to be used will be defined in due course, depending on the relevance and originality of the work, trying to focus on matrices that have been little or not studied so far.
The studies include analysis of the main components (centesimal composition), research into bioactive compounds (e.g. phenolic compounds), and their potential for health, with tests on antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer potential carried out in vitro.
The development and sensory analysis of new food products incorporating residues or extracts of these will also be considered.

Doctoral research grant (BID), in the area of Agronomic Sciences/Social Sciences/Food Sciences, under the FCT Research Grant Regulations (RBI) and the Research Grant Holder Statute (EBI) reference UIDP/00681/2020.

Degree-granting institution: Universidade do Porto

Project: Evaluation and systematization of agroecology as a productive, economic and social movement, which contributes to the settlement of populations in rural areas by valuing them.
The structuring axes would be the sustainability of agricultural practices, in particular those related to crop protection, the role of ecological infrastructures and functional biodiversity in the sustainability of production (i) due to their direct impact on agricultural production (quantity and quality in balance with the environment) and (ii) due to their impact on the multiple activities related to rural areas (well-being, leisure, tourism, population settlement).
