FROM INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY TO TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY INITIATING, DEVELOPING INDUSTRY AND RESEARCH LINKS

F.E. Feeney, Head of Computing TU Dublin, Ireland.

On January 1, 2019 TU Dublin was founded from Institutes of Technology in Blanchardstown, Dublin and Tallaght. One reason for this elevation was recognition of the valuable role IoTs were playing in applied research with industry. In this paper we look at one School and its journey from provider of two year courses to working with multinational companies across all levels to PhD.
We look at some strategies which have been successful and try to identify some of the factors underpinning successful outcomes.

CAN WASTEWATER BE A RESOURCE?

Short Bio

Her path towards this conference started with the decision to study Biotechnology at Universidade de Aveiro, in the Portuguese “windy city.” Upon graduating, her interest towards Environmental Biotechnology, cultivated in her university years, led to the decision to move and tackle a PhD in Bioprocess Engineering, this time in the land of the “Croissants” and “Chocolatines”, INSA – Toulouse (France) was the destination. During that time, her interest in applied research in Wastewater Treatment got fueled and the decision to make it a career was easy. It was moving North, toward Delft in The Netherlands that she found Biothane, a business unit of Veolia Water Technologies, and she became a Research Engineer. Working in the field of Anaerobic Treatment of Industrial Wastewaters she is in charge of Research and Commercial projects, and has the opportunity to overcome the challenges of both Lab and Industrial-scale projects. These include development of new technologies and optimization of existing systems, as well as validation for full-scale designs. Therefore, she is looking forward to the opportunity of presenting Biothane’s technologies, and sharing the R&D activities.
