Health Education and Quality of Life

The health knowledge of the Portuguese population has improved significantly, but young people require particular attention in terms of lifestyle-related health determinants. Scientific evidence on health promotion in schools, innovation and the need to refocus action on results imply the development of interventions that are more appropriate for young people. As well as empowering people and communities to take action, it means recognizing their skills and potential and facilitating their choices. As part of this broader vision, the AppSaúde: Empowering for better living project was created with the aim of improving the health literacy levels of young adults in central Portugal. It integrates three specific areas: nutrition, addictive consumption and sexuality. The objectives are: to develop an instrument that assesses the level of literacy of higher education students in the areas of food, addictive consumption and sexuality; to monitor the determinants of health in these areas and to develop a web platform that includes a health education program and a forum that allows the exchange of ideas between students and professionals.
